Gavin: Home sweet home

So here we all are, back under the same roof and loving it. The difference in Sonny being home this time is massive - we thought that constant pain and sickness from last time were the norm - but he's chirpy, eating and already getting annoyed by his sister. The nerve damage in his legs is quite scary, but he's already making improvements and, as he continues to build muscle, will hopefully start to return rapidly. Luckily there aren't too many stairs in our bloody three story house for him to cope with.

My first job today was to go to the pharmacist to pick up his prescription which I thought would be a bag full. Turned out I had slightly underestimated what he would need (pic below) and, alongside the wheelchair, commode, bath lifts and splints we're starting to look and act like a proper hospital. Zo has refused to wear the nurses uniform I've got her but I'm very happy to pull on a pair of brown jumbo cords and say things like 'this boy needs 20mg of capri sun and a petis filous infusion'

Gavin: Locums motives II

I awoke this morning to see the Locum on call was the one that had put the fear of god into me a few weeks ago. He worried me so much that although Sonny has some funny marks on his legs, I certainly wasn't telling this doctor about them in case he decided on immediate amputation. However, he came in to examine Sonny and looked genuinely pleased with his progress, saying lots of great things like 'I can't believe he looks so well' and 'it just shows you that anything can happen'. He finished off by saying to Sonny 'Hodgkins is easier to treat and if you keep getting fitter that is the best medicine', which is a bit better than his last parting shot (click here to read). I wanted to be smug and wear a 'I-told-you-so-face', but instead was ridiculously pleased, relieved and grateful for his positive words.

I now have to go and prepare Sonny's lunch of mini scotch eggs, a bread stick, homous, cheese straws and some Jelly beans. A sort of Tesco Value tapas really.

Gavin: The first of many...

So, here we are... the first post of the new blog that will hopefully keep everyone up to date with what's happening with Sonny. We're a bit behind as obviously he's been at GOSH for around six weeks now so there may be a bit of repetition and stuff you know already but, we're new to all this new fangled myface stuff, so give us a break. We've decided to head up each post with whoever's blooging so 'Gavin: Celebrity Visitors' will unsurprisingly be from me and 'Zoe: the diagnosis'... yep, you get it. Zoe will give you the proper updates and I'll twitter on with observations. Rube's and Sonny will both blog too and we won't edit them.. it's free speech after all. If we get good at this and get a few followers we may even stick up some photos too (when we've learnt HTML obviously). Anyway, hopefully this will let a few of you know where we are and, if you've stumbled on this (I expect it will be number one in google in the next few weeks) will give you a real life view of what it's like to hear the news that your son has cancer...
